Our lives, in virtually all respects, are increasingly affected by technology. Its apparent with everyday use of cell phones, computers, laptops and other devices. However, many of our clients are unaware of technology within their own automobiles which capture vehicle movement data. Included in this data is vehicle speed, braking and acceleration. This information is stored in “Black Boxes” or more commonly known as vehicle Event Data Recorders [EDR]. This information can be very useful in determination of fault relative to auto and truck accidents. In a recent office case involving two autos that crashed at an intersection, there was significant disagreement between the parties as to who was at fault, including who may have been speeding and the movements of the vehicles just prior to impact. Through the information extracted from a vehicle’s black box, we were able to learn the facts, all of which helpful resolve the claim.
